This Kerman rug, dating to circa 1900, recalls the heroic combat scenes of Persepolis. A standing figure confronts a winged creature within an architectural frame. Animals and floral motifs surround the encounter, bringing the imagery of ancient Persian kingship into the tradition of pictorial weaving.
